The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) is a government-produced
document that provides nutrient and food group, physical activity,
and food safety information and guidance for nutrition educators
and policymakers. The guidelines are updated every five years
to reflect the latest research findings and nutrition trends
in American.
Issued jointly by the USDA and U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services, the DGA is available at:

The lengthy document is written in accessible language and
broken into nine topic areas. It includes lists of food sources
of various nutrients that are commonly under-consumed in the
American diet.
